Starting is harder than persevering. So start today.

When I talk to people about job hunting, perseverance is rarely the real problem. The real problem is getting started at all. The LinkedIn profile that has sat unfinished for months. The application that's saved as a draft but never sent.

The reason is usually fear, specifically the fear of rejection that arrives before it has even happened. As long as you don't start, nobody can give you a no. That feels safe, but it holds you exactly where you don't want to stay.

What helps is radically shrinking the first step. Not 'I'll rework my entire CV today', but 'I'll change one sentence in my LinkedIn summary today'. Not 'I'll apply to five companies this week', but 'I'll write one message to one person today'.

For most people, motivation doesn't come before the action, but after it. The first small step creates a feeling of success that makes the next step easier. Waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect mood, is mostly just an elegant form of avoidance.

So, very concretely: what is the one smallest action you can still finish today? Not tomorrow, not when you have time. Today. Do it before you close this page.
